GREEN DAY – SAVIORS (édition de luxe)

Last January, Green Day returned with their fourteenth album, Saviors. It helped continue their legacy of punk rock dominance and even scored them a couple of Grammy nominations, including Best Rock Album. It was fresh and timely, and now they are releasing a deluxe edition with 7 bonus tracks (both previously unreleased and some acoustic versions). One of the B-sides is the rollicking, “Smash It Like Belushi.”

BILLY IDOL – DREAM INTO IT

Yeah, I know this came out in April, but I wanted to circle back to Billy Idol‘s first top 10-charting album. The rocker with a snear is 69-years old and this is his ninth full-length album. It seems fitting that a concept album about his life in 35 minutes (give or take) would be the album that got him to the top of the charts. Pulling in Joan Jett, Alison Mosshart (The Kills, Raconteurs), and Avril Lavigne, it’s a nod to what’s happening now while looking back. “Still Dancing” sounds fresh, but Billy’s voice has a grit that only living a full life can give.

SPARKSMAD!

The art pop duo, Sparks, have been steadily carving their way through the music industry since 1971. The latest offering from the brothers, Ron and Russell Mael, is MAD! It’s full of their mix of electronica, wry humor, and anger. They seem to harken back to the drama of their older music with the experimentation of a much younger act. There’s a driving pulse and intense focus on “Do Things My Own Way,” with distortion and darkness creeping at the edges.

VARIOUS ARTISTSYOUNG AND WILD – A DECADE OF AMERICAN GLAM METAL 1982-1992

The decadence of the ’80s, big hair, big lighting, and bigger guitar solos. This is a BIG set, 58 songs, 58 bands: Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Kiss, Dokken, Warrant, Billy Squier. It covers a wide swath of the glitter, hooks, and showcases a love of not just the heavy hitters, but the smaller acts that are often forgotten.
