If you don’t know who Tom Waits is, you’ve certainly heard his compositions before. The Eagles, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, and plenty more have covered his songs.
He’s an acquired taste. Especially with his gruff, barking, singing style. Great, great lyricist though.
Even the stories he and ideas he comes up with during this interview sound like they could be lyrics from his songs. Simple, yet weird:
a gunmetal Mercedes pulls up into a puddle of blood, and out steps the 25 karat blonde transvestite with a $2 watch
That’s just something he came up with during the interview, and it sounds like it could have been his own lyrics.
An old Tom Waits interview from 1988 was recently discovered, and thankfully, PBS Digital Studios took it upon themselves to have the interview animated. It caters to the child in all of us because you’d likely rather watch an animated version of an interview than sit and watch a person speak their answers to questions.
