BECK – RIDE LONESOME
“A trance of sound and emotion” is how Beck is describing his first new album in seven years, Ride Lonesome, which draws on folk, country, and Americana influences for a dusty horse ride off into the sunset sound. It’s an album for taking the back roads and the scenic route, no conversations necessary and the full, cinematic feel will fill the spaces.
BLOC PARTY – ANATOMY OF A BRIEF ROMANCE
Just like it says on the tin, the new album out from Bloc Party, Anatomy of a Brief Romance, breaks down fleeting relationships, missed opportunities, and the emotional aftershocks that linger long after the moment has passed. But with the angular guitars and electronic glitches, it’s definitely love in the modern age with talk of “Love Bombs” and casual hookups. As per usual with Bloc Party, Kele Okereke‘s voice and songwriting is front and center, observing everything with a critical lens.

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN – APPLES FOR ISAAC
The first taste of new Echo & the Bunnymen in about a decade harkens back to their classic sound of the 80s. Apples for Isaac, shimmers darkly with Ian McCulloch‘s unmistakable voice punching through about haunting locations and yourself as you get older. It’s a great chance to hear the late Blondie drummer, Clem Burke, on one of his last recordings prior to his death as the heartbeat of the album

NEIL YOUNG AND THE CHROME HEARTS – SECOND SONG
If you want to compare Neil Young‘s writing from the 1960s to what he’s doing now, he’s created a nice little bridge with his new collection, Second Song. Young turned 80 and released his 44th album that has five previously unreleased songs plus two previously unreleased versions of songs (“Casting Me Away From You” and “I Will Love You Forever”). It’s a comforting sound if you are a fan of Neil Young, he always sounds like himself and this explores a conversation he’s having with himself.
