DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS – LOVE
It might be impossible, but try and forget the novelty of “Come On Eileen” for a moment. Do you like sweeping arrangements, heartfelt performances, and moments that feel almost startlingly sincere? Dexys Midnight Runners’ LOVE might not have a hit that’ll knock “Come On Eileen” out of one-hit-wonderville, but it’s a soulful and, yes, romantic new offering from the band.

DINOSAUR JR. – THERE NEAR
Now in their fourth decade as a band, you know what you are getting with a Dinosaur Jr. album: fuzzy guitar, and melancholic lyrics. There Near doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but that’s part of its charm. The album leans into everything that has made Dinosaur Jr. essential to indie rockers, so expect face-melting solos and songs that somehow feel both defeated and triumphant at the same time.

INTERPOL – THIS MIRROR WEIGHS A TON
There are a handful of New York bands that arose from the ashes of 9/11. Interpol is one of those bands that poured everything inside of them from that day; all the confusion, anxiety, and raw emotion into their debut album. Their eighth album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, is a return to New York. For the first time in a decade, they wrote and recorded the album in their old NY neighborhood with an emphasis on that lightning-in-a-bottle live feeling. It makes sense then, that the album feels reflective, almost haunted at times. Paul Banks‘ voice remains the emotional center, navigating songs that wrestle with memory, regret, and self-examination.
TALK TALK – THE COLOUR OF SPRING 40TH ANNIVERSARY
Talk Talk celebrated the 40th anniversary of The Colour of Spring, by reuniting for a one-off gig September 5th. They also decided to take their experimental synth-pop sound of 1986 and put out a reissue cut at half speed. If you’re a completionist or enjoy hearing something familiar in an entirely new way, check out the half speed version, or you can stick to the classic.
