INTERPOL – “IRON CITY”
Interpol are a band that came out of the ruins of 9/11 New York. It makes sense that their first song since 2022 starts with them, “Alone in Central Park.” It builds tension with moody guitars and an interwoven story about dreams and the past tumbling together. The new album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, will be out August 28th.
NEW ORDER – THE BEST AND THE REST OF NEW ORDER
New inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, New Order, are releasing a timely collection for those looking to get to know them a little better. Combining 1994’s The Best of New Order with its 1995 remix companion The Rest of New Order, adding remastered audio and a deep well of rare and previously unreleased mixes.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE – “EASY STREET”
Josh Homme and the Queens of the Stone Age gang are back with their first new music in three years with an entirely new sound. It’s softer and sweeter on the surface, although lyrically they seem to be digging in the same unhinged sandbox. Country singer Nikki Lane (who typically leans towards the outlaw country side of things) is a welcome addition to “Easy Street.”
THE WATERBOYS – ATLANTIC RAIN: THE LOST FISHERMAN’S BLUES RECORDINGS
Just when it seemed like every possible scrap from the legendary Fisherman’s Blues sessions had already been released, Mike Scott digs up something new. Atlantic Rain collects previously unheard recordings from the band’s 1986-88 era after Scott revisited dozens of mislabeled tapes and discovered forgotten songs, alternate versions, jams, and covers (including one from Minnesota’s own, Prince). The result is a sprawling 3CD/3LP set featuring 25 unreleased tracks and extensive liner notes from singer/songwriter Scott himself.
