THE COCKROACHES – “ROUGH AND TWISTED”
The worst kept secret of Record Store Day was a slim white sleeve containing a single from The Cockroaches. Even without knowing the history of The Rolling Stones playing a series of “secret” shows under the pseudonym back in the ’70s, press play and the very obvious voice of Mick Jagger swaggers in to question the listener. I have had that voice in my ear since I was in diapers; there was no hiding. The truth officially is out, “Rough and Twisted” is the first taste of the new album from the Stones, Foreign Tongues (set to come out sometime in July).
If you like your Stones getting gritty, swampy, and bluesy, you are in luck. They are going back to their roots with a raw “American” south sound and Mick picking up his harmonica.

DURAN DURAN – “FREE TO LOVE”
Duran Duran must have been feeling nostalgic. They decided to head back into the studio with Nile Rogers (CHIC / Bowie / INXS) who they teamed up on Notorious, The Reflex, and Wild Boys. Synth heavy and cemented in the disco era, it’s quite a change from their darker 2023 release, Danse Macabre.

PAUL WELLER – WELLER AT THE BBC VOL. 2
Paul Weller has released some of my favorite covers. He has an ability to get inside of a song and Weller at the BBC (Vol. 2) is a wonderful exploration of Weller live and comfortable and open to seeing where the song lives within him on a given day. Spanning from 2008-2024, Weller reworks songs from The Jam, The Style Council, his solo work, and a collection of covers (from Billie Eilish to The Kinks).
