RICHARD ASHCROFT – “LOVER”

“Bittersweet Symphony” is one of those powerful songs that could easily overshadow any legacy making for a musician. But for Richard Ashcroft, it’s just an underlined moment in his career; one he’s looking forward to pushing in new directions. He’s opening for Oasis on their big reunion tour this summer and releasing his first album of new music since 2018 in the Fall. And proving he still knows his way around a catchy hook, he just released “Lover.”

THE DOOBIE BROTHERSWALK THIS ROAD

New Doobie Brothers‘ in 2025? Yes, and the harmonies are flowing like their best offerings of the ’70s. Michael McDonald is back with the band on their 16th album, Walk This Road, that does seem like a walk through their past filled with funk, blues, rock, and that blue-eyed soul that you would expect from McDonald. Mavis Staples even lends her vocals to the title track for added depth and a grounding that feels like coming home.

PULPMORE

Jarvis Cocker kicks off Pulp‘s first album in 24 years with the thesis statement, “I was born to preform, it’s a calling. I was born to do this: shouting and pointing.” The rest of the album solidifies why the Britpop group has maintained their status on the top of the pile for the last 47 or so years since the school friends got together. There’s the rocker with Cocker’s deadpan delivery on “Spike Island,” the driving heartbeat drums and disco shimmer of “Got To Have Love,” and “Farmers Market” with its quiet piano that grows with soaring strings.

TURNSTILENEVER ENOUGH

Baltimore rockers Turnstile broke onto the scene in 2021 with their adrenaline fueled, GLOW ON. Their latest offering, NEVER ENOUGH, takes their sound to new places. Their punk roots are still there bringing that intensity mixed with infectious melodies like The Clash, and they borrow Led Zeppelin‘s dynamic song structure that always keeps things interesting.
