SIDE ONE | Moondance

SIDE ONE | Moondance

In the movie Beautiful Girls, Timothy Hutton’s character is smitten by an attractive stranger who comes to town. The cousin of one of his high school buddies. As he gets to know her, he gushes his jealousy to her that her boyfriend gets to do amazing things with her. The little things. Like reading the newspaper together on a rainy Sunday morning, and smelling her skin after a day at the beach. When he can’t take it anymore, he asks her if she can think of anything better than making love to an attractive stranger, in an icehouse, with only oil light to guide them.

She responds, “Going back to Chicago. Ice cold martinis. Van Morrison”

Well said, Uma. Side one of Van Morrison’s Moondance is a classic. Each song is perfect for a rainy Sunday morning.

…or is it perfect for sunny Saturday afternoons?

…or is it perfect for late night evenings?

The answer, is “yes”.

It’s just one of those rare, perfect Side One’s that doesn’t come along very often. One that is perfect for lazy days at home, no matter what the weather is like outside.

Moondance as a whole is a classic. But when “Into the Mystic” is finished, and you have to get up from your chair, you don’t necessarily turn the vinyl over. You just might want to place the needle back at the beginning of “And It Stoned Me”.
