When did you start at KQ?

’83 but I left in ’94 and returned in 2015. “Every time I’m out, they pull me back in”

Favorite concert memory:

  1. ‘Wings Over America’ St. Paul Civic Center 1976. I was only 11 years old, but seeing Paul McCartney for the first time in the flesh was something you never forget.
  2. Or the first time I experienced Van Halen live in 1979. I was 16, halfway thru ‘Running with the Devil’, the girl behind me barfed on my back. I ripped off my t-shirt and kept rockin’.
  3. Jon Bon Jovi did dedicate ‘Runaway’ to me in front of 18,000 at the Xcel.

Random celebrity moment:

It’s a long story, but a kid named Jon Bongiovi gave me a demo of a song called ‘Runaway’ when I worked in New York in 1982. Last time I checked, Jon Bon Jovi is worth 300 Million. I’m not.

Favorite watering hole past and present:

Pickled Parrot (past) and Prohibition on the top of the Foshay (present). Honestly, when you get up at 2:45am, you don’t do a lot of bar hopping anymore.

Favorite behind-the-scenes KQ moment?

  1. Bowling with Motley Crue in 1987. Not because of the band, but getting to hang out with Heather Locklear was fun. She was married to Tommy Lee at the time.
  2. The time George Thorogood showed up at 11pm to play live on air.
  3. When 50 Cabs parked in front of the station to protest Tommy B.

All very special.

Got any hobbies?

I love movies, playing the Drums and collecting Rock n Roll memorabilia.

Is there something you feel strongly about? How have you helped give back to the community?

I’m honored to host various charity events in Minneapolis/St. Paul every year. I recently hosted a fundraiser for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Great people and I look forward to hosting it again this year.
